Have Your Say on School Suspensions and Exclusions – Your Voice Matters!
NNPCF | Department of Education | ‘Every child achieving and thriving’ | 19 November 2026
The Department for Education wants to hear from parents and carers about proposed changes to how schools handle suspensions and exclusions — and your experience could help shape them.
The reform proposals are set out in the Schools White Paper ‘Every child achieving and thriving’
What's being proposed?
Under the government's plans, schools could see:
A consistent national approach to internal suspension (keeping pupils in school but out of normal lessons)
Reintegration support partnerships to help pupils settle back in after a suspension
Schools required to provide schoolwork during the first five days of any suspension or permanent exclusion
Why should you respond?
These changes could directly affect your family — particularly if your child has special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), or has experienced suspension or exclusion. The Department for Education is especially keen to hear from parents and carers with lived experience, so decision-makers understand the real impact on families like yours.
How to take part
The Call for Evidence includes questions specifically designed for parents and carers. You can respond directly here: — but don't wait, as it closes on 19 November 2026.
Children and young people will also be asked for their views separately, so their experiences are heard alongside parents and schools.
What happens next?
Your responses will help shape the government's formal consultation on how these reforms are rolled out — so this is a genuine chance to influence the system before changes are made.
