Parent Carer Engagement Session:-
The Local Area SEND Reform Plan & RBWM 5 Year Strategy
In early July the forum held a face to face and an online engagement session for parent carers to hear about the local area SEND Reform Plan and feed in views which will directly inform the implementation of the Local Plan and RBWM’s 5 Yr SEND Strategy.
What mattered most to attendees included:
All children and young people should reach their fullest potential and thrive.
Parents carers and young people should be recognised as equal partners whose views are listened to, valued and acted upon.
SEND Ambassador/ participation programmes should include primary aged pupils.
Provide earlier identification and intervention through better training for education settings and improve information for parents
Provide comprehensive SEND training for all school staff, including teachers, governors, support staff, office staff, lunchtime staff and senior leaders.
There was a lot to cover in the sessions, and some parent carers felt that there wasn’t sufficient time to talk about the priority area(s) of most interest to them. Based on this feedback, we plan to have themed sessions in the autumn to allow time for deeper discussions.
Thank you to all the parent carers who attended in person or online.
Your voice matters.
